His parents received a telegram to say he was dangerously ill in 17 Australian General Hospital with shrapnel wounds and amputated legs. Permission to visit not granted, further particulars will be forwarded when received.

They recieved a second telegram on 8th October, "Regret Pte 62074 Harold Haworth died of wounds."

He also had a brother Ernest serving with the East Lancashire Regiment.
